Members of the Joint Base San Antonio First Sergeants’ Council  provided the saber team for Joint Base San Antonio’s celebration of the Air Force's 67th birthday during a birthday event at the Westin Hotel in San Antonio Sept. 20. The modern day Air Force was created as a separate military service on Sept. 18, 1947, with the implementation of the National Security Act of 1947 under President Truman.  The Air Force's core missions are rooted in its original roles and responsibilities that were assigned in 1947; today the core missions are air and space superiority, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, rapid global mobility, global strike and command and control.(U.S. Air Force photo by Desiree N.
