African-American History Month officially commenced on base Feb. 2 with an opening ceremony in the Wilford Hall Medical Center auditorium on Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. Chief Master Sgt. Candance Curtz, WHMC's manager of cardiopulmonary services, was the guest speaker. Other speakers included Maj. Claudine Wega, who spoke about Frederick Douglas, and 2nd Lt. David Herndon, who spoke about Hiram Rhodes Revels. Major Wega is assigned to the 59th Medical Training Squadron. Lieutenant Herndon is assigned to the 59th Medical Wing.
