Looking for fun reading material for their classes, volunteer readers from Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, search through books that were pulled from the library shelves at Sun Valley Elementary School and then grouped according to grade level. Approximately 100 volunteers signed up to read to the students throughout the school day March 2, with members of Team Lackland representing nearly 80 percent of the volunteers, according to Kelli Wilson, the school's social worker and event organizer. Read Across America Day is currently the nation's largest reading event in which educators and community members encourage children to read, which simultaneously improves other basic skills. April 12 will be Drop Everything and Read Day. (USAF photo by April Blumer)
