Cylinders containing the oxygen used for breathing during altitude training. The 359th Aeromedical Squadron, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, uses a hypobaric chamber to train air crew and pilots about the dangers and symptoms of hypoxia, or altitude sickness. Pure oxygen is preferred over the nitrogen-rich air found closer to sea level because of the dangers of breathing nitrogen at abnormally high and low barometric pressure.
