The tradition of honoring repatriated Vietnam War POW pilots continued at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, March 25 during the annual Freedom Flyer Reunion Symposium and wreath laying ceremony. Retired Lt. Col. Richard E. Smith, spoke about captivity in the Hanoi Hilton, at Randolph’s base theater. For the 13th straight year, the symposium featured Freedom Flyers and the grim, but inspiring stories of their experiences in the POW camps in North Vietnam. The wreath-laying ceremony is held each year at the base’s Missing Man Monument, in honor of America’s military heroes who never made it home from war. (U.S. Air Force photo/Rich McFadden)
