Randolph High School teacher presented 'Golden Apple'

By Gabriel Myers 12th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs

Her cheeks blushed as students cheered and the band played at the Randolph High School field house on Feb. 10 when the annual KENS 5/San Antonio Credit Union "Golden Apple ExCel Award" for teaching excellence was presented to a well-respected educator.

Donna Colglazier, an English teacher at RHS, said she was honored to represent the Randolph Field Independent School District after receiving the coveted award from KENS 5 news anchor Debra Knapp.

"We have the best kids and the best faculty here at Randolph," said Ms. Colglazier. "These awards are not won by only one person alone, it's a team effort."

Ms. Colglazier has been teaching for 25 years and is in her third year teaching at Randolph. She says she truly enjoys teaching students whose parents serve our country because they generally tend to be more respectful, mature and have a very broad view of the world as a whole.

"She helps us understand so much and she's the best English teacher I've ever had," said Donavin Chapman, one of her students. "She brings out amazing things in me that I never thought I was capable of."

The Golden Apple ExCel award is in it's tenth year and was created to recognize outstanding teachers who are making a positive impact on the lives of children in the greater San Antonio area. It's mission is to make teachers known in the community, and bring to light the positive role they play in the future success of their communities.
