Army Colonel Jim Chevallier is the Deputy Commander for Joint Base San Antonio and the 502nd Air Base Wing Vice Commander. The 8,000-person 502nd ABW consolidates 49 installation management support functions for a military community with an annual operating budget of more than $700 million and a $32 billion plant replacement value. It encompasses more than 80,000 full-time personnel, 145,000 students and a retiree community of more than 250,000. The 502nd ABW also supports in excess of $4.5 billion in directed projects. The Wing has host base responsibilities for Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, Lackland and Randolph.
Colonel Chevallier graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Resources. He earned a Master of Science degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. He is a graduate of the Armor Officers' Basic Course, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Infantry Officers' Advanced Course, Cavalry Leaders' Course, Army Command and General Staff College and Naval War College.
