The Judge Advocate provides on-time and on-target legal services to individuals and organizations in the areas of military justice, adverse administrative actions and ethics, civil, operations, environmental, labor and contract law. The Judge Advocate provides preventive law and legal assistance.

JBSA-Legal Assistance Eligibility

To qualify for Legal Assistance you must have a valid military identification card and fall into one of the following categories:

  • Active Duty Military Members and their dependents

  • Reserve and Guard Members who are on active duty and their dependents

  • Retired military members and their dependents. If you are a "gray area" retired reservist or guardsman or a dependent of one of them, you must be receiving retirement pay to be eligible for service. Please note you must have a military ID card to be eligible.

  • Other individuals in unique circumstances may be eligible if they have a valid military identification card.

Note: Legal assistance does not extend to advice about criminal charges or adverse administrative actions. Contact the Area Defense Counsel for assistance with those matters.
Military Justice

The Legal Office provides legal advice on a full range of disciplinary matters to the wing commander, as well as to subordinate units and partner commands under the worldwide mission. We enable commanders to uphold good order and discipline through the efficient and equitable administration of military justice, ranging from administrative actions to general courts-martial.

Hours of Operation

JBSA legal offices are closed on all AETC Family Days and federal holidays.

JBSA-Randolph Legal Services: All Military ID Card Holders

Appointments can be made by calling the Front Desk at 210-652-6781.

Customer Service Hours: Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Friday 8-9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Notary and Power of Attorney Services: By appointment or walk in
Wills and Legal Assistance services are by appointment only (Call the Front Desk for details) Reservists must be on active duty orders for legal services

JBSA-Fort Sam Houston: BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

Office Hours: Monday -Thursday: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. 
Closed between noon and 1 p.m.
 Friday: 8 a.m. to noon


JBSA-Lackland:  
Wills are by appointment only for active duty members and their dependents.

Wills for retired service members will be done on designated days (call 210-671-3362 or 210-671/3363 for details). 
General legal assistance is provided during Wednesday morning walk-in legal assistance from 8:30-9:30 a.m.

Notary/Powers of Attorney Walk-In Hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday 8 a.m.to 12:30 p.m.
Trainees: Walk-in service anytime during open hours
