JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
"It's better to have tried and failed than never tried; you can rest easy knowing you gave it a go," Katherine Kelly said. This quote resonates strongly with Mario Stout, a dedicated advocate for individuals with disabilities and a member of the Joint Base San Antonio Disability Action Team.
Stout earned an associate degree from Central Texas State, a bachelor's from Texas A&M University-Central Texas, and a master's in management and leadership from Webster University in Missouri.
For nine years, Stout has worked at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph as a human resource specialist, focusing on talent acquisition. He has submitted to the PALACE Acquire program for a three-year training initiative, fostering career development with advancement opportunities nationwide.
Stout focuses on the abilities, not limitations, of individuals with disabilities. His vision is a "one-stop shop" providing comprehensive resources, including educational programs, financial advice, employment assistance, specialized equipment and services.
When asked about personal goals, Stout's enthusiasm was contagious. He eagerly expressed interest in motivational speaking, sharing his story of resilience, determination and community impact.
"No one is going to help you reach your dreams for you, you must help yourself," he emphasized. "People will help you move forward when they see you trying."
The Special Emphasis Programs are Department of the Air Force employment initiatives focusing on groups historically underrepresented in certain occupational categories or grade levels within the federal workforce. The team ensures leaders take proactive steps to provide equal opportunities for minorities, women and people with disabilities in all employment areas.
Meet Stout at the Accommodations Showcase on Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brooke Army Medical Center Medical Mall. Other disability resources and information agencies will be available.
