Military Family Team Building (MFTB)

The mission of Military Family Team Building (MFTB) is to educate and train service members and their family in a variety of skills, continuing a tradition that dates back 200 years. MFTB is serious about readiness—mission readiness and family readiness.

MFTB offers a series of training modules that cover topics such as basic information about the military, personal growth, and leadership skills. These courses are designed to help improve personal and family preparedness which enhances overall military readiness. Courses offered not only help you to  cope with, but enjoy the military lifestyle. Many of the training modules can be applied toward resume and career building, self-development and leadership skills. MFTB provides the knowledge and self-confidence to take responsibility for yourself and your family.

An informed, empowered family allows service members to concentrate efforts and focus in on the mission of defending our nation. MFTB trainings and workshops are open to service members, their families, DoD civilians, and volunteers. 



Course Offered

Many of the courses can be applied toward resume' and career building, self-development and leadership skills. MFTB provides the knowledge and self-confidence to take responsibility for yourself and your Family. The training is available to Military members, Family members, Department of Defense civilians and volunteers.

Military Knowledge
Military Knowledge modules K-1 through K-10 helps spouses and other patrons understand the military way of life by introducing community resources, family readiness groups. Review the differences and similarities between the different military branches, chain of command, ranks, and acronyms and terms. Learn what to expect during social functions, review customs and courtesies. Discover what benefits are available and the types of entitlements, the importance of legal and financial preparation during an emergency and ways to be resilient. Duration of each module varies: 60-75 minutes.

Personal Growth & Resiliency
Personal Growth & Resiliency modules G-1 through G-12 help you find the leader within yourself. Discover the different types of personalities, relationships and working dynamics of a successful team through communication, conflict management and other problem solving strategies. Learn ways to alleviate stress by growing through change, improving time management and resiliency during a crisis and grief. Duration of each module varies: 60-90 minutes

Leadership Development
Leadership modules L-1 through L-8 expand leadership skills, effective communication techniques and learning to mentor others into leadership positions. They also discuss the different leadership styles, how to run an effective meeting, how to manage group conflict and how to coach and mentor others. Duration of each module varies: 60-120 minutes

Master Training
Instructor Training Course (ITC)
A professional development course designed to improve instructional skills. Upon completion of the class, students also are qualified to become instructors for the Army Family Team Building program. Students are required to give a 10-minute presentation as part of the course. Evaluations are provided by Master Trainers and by the other students in the class. Instructor Trainer Course modules include Platform Skills, The Adult Learner, Characteristics of Effective Instructors, Managing the Learning Environment, and the Preparation Process.
Duration: 16 hours, 2 days

Briefer Training Course (BTC)
A professional development course designed to improve briefing skills and techniques. Students are required to give a 8-minute presentation as part of the course. Evaluations are provided to students by Master Trainers. Briefer Training Course modules include Introduction to Effective Briefings, Sharpening your Briefing Skills and Making the Briefing your Own.
Duration: 8 hours, 1 day

Facilitator Training Course (FTC)
Facilitator Training Course-A professional development course designed to improve group facilitation skill. Students are required to facilitate a work group as part of the course. Upon completion of the class, students are certified to be facilitators for the Army Family Action Plan conference. Evaluations are provided by Master Trainers. Facilitator Training Course modules include Facilitation and Facilitator, Facilitating the Group, The ABC’s of Facilitation and Start to Finish.
Duration: 16 hours, 2 days
