221012-F-PO640-0006.JPG Photo By: Jason W. Edwards

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas - U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. (Dr.) Matthew Brock (right), chief of the San Antonio Market Sleep Disorders Clinic, consults with patient Airman 1st Class Austin Starks, 59th Medical Specialty Squadron health service management journeyman, before a sleep study at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Clinic, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, Aug. 31, 2022. Brock was the lead author on a study, which has identified a new sleep disorder that’s been disrupting the lives of trauma survivors for decades, if not centuries. While there have been related studies, this was the largest to date and identifies trauma associated sleep disorder, or TSD, as a distinct sleep-related disorder or parasomnia.
