A statue honoring 1st Lt. Sharon Lane, a U.S. Army nurse killed during the Vietnam War, sits at Aultman Hospital, where she attended nursing school in the 1960s, in her hometown of Canton, Ohio. Lane was killed in June 1969 from enemy fire while serving at the 312th Evacuation Hospital in Chu Lai, South Vietnam. She was the only U.S. military nurse to die from enemy fire during the Vietnam conflict.
