U.S. Army Reserve Soldiers assigned to the 416th Theater Engineer Command's 277th Engineer Company based out of San Antonio, Texas, provided assistance to local residents in Hidalgo County by pumping out about 66,000 gallons of water at one of their local pump stations. 277th Eng. Co. Soldiers were charged with improving an estimated three mile stretch of roadway on Loma Alta Road and a little over two and a half miles of roadway on Palmetto Hill Road before the storm redirected the unit to water pumping operations until waters receded. Services provided by military personnel are done through the Department of Defense's Innovative Readiness Training, a civil-military program that builds mutually beneficial partnerships between U.S. communities and the DOD.
