METC instructor lauded for his efforts in saving the life of a gunshot victim

Clyde Foster, Medical Education and Training Campus Department of Combat Medic Training instructor at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, has been nominated for a METC award for his actions in saving the life of a gunshot victim at a northeast San Antonio H-E-B store in late July 2019.

METC instructor selected as trainer for All Armed Forces Women’s Basketball Team

Kelsey Gebauer (back row, far right), Medical Education and Training Campus Physical Therapist Technician Program instructor at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, worked as a physical therapist and trainer for the All Army Women’s Basketball Team that took first place at the U.S. Armed Forces Basketball Championships in June at Naval Station Mayport, Florida. Gebauer has been selected as the physical therapist and trainer for the All Armed Forces Women’s Basketball Team that will compete in the International Military Sports Council 7th Military World Games in Wuhan, China, Oct. 18-28.

Joint Chiefs Chairman’s senior enlisted advisor visits METC

Command Sgt. Major John Wayne Troxell, senior enlisted advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the senior non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Armed Forces, observes Army Combat Medic Training trainees conduct an exercise in the Combat Trauma Patient Simulator constructed to resemble a Middle Eastern marketplace in the aftermath of an explosion set off by a suicide bomber. The “casualties,” which are life-like manikins called human patient simulators, appear to have received several traumatic injuries including amputations and gunshot wounds. The combat medic trainees assess the injuries and take actions to treat them while sirens blare, the room fills with smoke, and the lights are dimmed.

A physician assistant from Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston is being lauded for his efforts and quick action in helping to save a life of a man struck by lightning. Capt. Robert Blume, Medical Education and Training Campus Department of Combat Medic Training Officer in charge, Whiskey 2 training team, was on his way home from work on the evening of June 6 when he came upon a chaotic scene in his north San Antonio-area neighborhood.

Married couple joins Navy together, adjusting to military life

Mark and Pearl Alvarado of San Antonio enlisted in the Navy together in January, five months after they got married. The couple, who graduated from Southside High School last year, have both completed their basic training and are undergoing their technical training in the Navy.

METC med tech student assists car crash victims

Airman 1st Class Colten Connelly simulates a c-spine stabilization on a “patient” during emergency medical technician training in the Aerospace Service Medical Apprentice program at the Medical Education and Training Campus. The technique is the same one he administered to a vehicle accident victim. The purpose of this skill is to prevent further injury to patients involved in a trauma. When this skill is completed appropriately, the patient is unable to move and will stay on the backboard until a physician evaluates them for spinal injuries.

METC Fitness Center opens new Parent Child Area

Located in a former workout room and storage space at the fitness center, the Parent Child Area has a play area and small table for children and includes a flat screen TV and DVD player for viewing children’s movies. In addition, it includes an area with new exercise equipment for parents to work out on while they watch over their children.
