JBSA welcomes Microsoft Software and Systems Academy

The academy will be located at nearby JBSA-Randolph, and provide service members who are leaving the military with IT-related training and certifications.

Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio studies effectiveness of potential snakebite treatments

The illustration shows how therapeutic phages can be used as an antivenom in treating snakebites. Phages, which are viruses that infect bacteria, enter the body and target venom components. Once the phages stick to the venom components, they are able to inactivate the venom compounds and clear the compounds from the body. The research into the use of therapeutic phages is being conducted by Dr. Yoon Hwang, Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio research scientist.

Bill Boruff welcomes Army contracting leaders from throughout the Mission and Installation Contracting Command March 6 and sets expectations for the three-day 2018 Acquisition Leaders Training Event at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. More than 60 leaders from the MICC headquarters and its subordinate organizations throughout the country are participating in the ALTE. Boruff is the MICC commanding general.

Air Force Civil Engineer Center revives in-person Air Installations Compatible Use Zones Program training

Meg Reyes, Joint Base San Antonio Community Initiatives director, addresses attendees at the Air Installations Compatible Use Zones Program conference at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Feb. 27. The Air Force Civil Engineer Center hosted event brought AICUZ personnel from all around the Department of Defense, as well as representatives from the Office of Economic Adjustment and Department of Agriculture to discuss and share best practices with each other. The overall goal of the program is to protect the health, safety and welfare of those living and working on or near military installations while ensuring the continued flight operations.

BAMC Black History Month event highlights African Americans in times of war

Colbath is one of eight people who were brought to Brooke Army Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds inflicted by a lone gunman in Sutherland Springs, Texas on Nov. 5, 2017. He is currently rehabilitating from his injuries at the CFI.

JBSA-Fort Sam Houston unit hosts first-ever Marine Corps Jumpmaster course

Tran Richard during a training session in the Marine Military Free-Fall Jumpmaster Course held at the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion, located at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston. The course started Jan. 29 and runs until Feb. 16. Students who complete the course become certified Military Free-Fall Jumpmasters, who oversee every aspect of military free-fall operations, including planning, execution and recovery.

Army Emergency Relief campaign kicks off March 2

The Army Emergency Relief mission it is to provide financial assistance to Army Soldiers in times of valid emergency need.  Last year, AER provided JBSA-Fort Sam Houston Soldiers and their families with more that $1 million in assistance ($1,006,972.32), a 54 percent increase locally.
