FA-HUM 19 is a U.S. Army South-sponsored foreign humanitarian assistance and disaster relief exercise designed to build U.S. partner nation’s capacity for civil and military response to major disasters. More than 100 national experts from 13 Latin American countries operated jointly throughout FA-HUM 19 simulations and training events from May 6-17 in the Dominican Republic.

Peruvian Army's commanding general visits U.S. Army South

Gen. Jorge Céliz, Peruvian Army commanding general, visited Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston March 26-27 to engage U.S. Army medical and maneuver centers to advance interoperability during Peruvian Army transformation. During his visit, he was able to see the educational capabilities provided by Brooke Army Medical Center, the Center of the Intrepid and many others.

Salt Lake City educators visit Army South

The Salt Lake City U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion brought 10 educators from their area of responsibility to Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston March 6-7 to learn about the educational opportunities the Army provides to their Soldiers, hosted by U.S. Army South. The educators were able to see some of training provided to the Brooke Army Medical Center staff.

U.S. Army South hosts the Conference of the American Armies

U.S. Army South hosted the Conference of American Armies Specialized Conference on Military Support to Civilian Authorities to Counter Threat Networks at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston from Feb. 4-8. This conference allowed the partnered nations to work together as a team to develop a guide for countering threat networks.

Army South, Combined Arms Support Command discuss logistics modernization with Peruvian Army

Maj. Gen. Miguel Angel Garcia Salas, Peruvian Army director of logistics, (left) welcomes Combined Arms Support Command and Army South members to Peru in front of the Intervention Force Memorial for Operation Chavin de Huantar. Operation Chavin de Huantar was a Peruvian military operation ended the 1997 Japanese embassy hostage crisis by raiding the Japanese ambassador's residence and freeing the hostages held there by the terrorist organization Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement and is considered one of the most successful hostage rescues in the world. Six CASCOM and ARSOUTH members visited the Peruvian Army to assist in modernizing their logistics doctrine and programs to better support future operational requirements.

Representatives from more than 15 countries participated in the 6th annual Inter-American Legal Forum at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Dec. 11-13. During the day, the senior legal advisors gathered at U.S. Army South headquarters to discuss developments in military justice and operational law.

The MEDRET is part of U.S. Army South-led Beyond the Horizon exercise lasting May 12 through August 4. The exercise involves about 1,800 Soldiers of all components, part of Combined Joint Task Force Hope and includes MEDRETS and construction of schools and a clinic addition.

Army South, Central American militaries work to improve regional security

U.S. Army South hosted the Central America (CENTAM) Regional Working Group, at U.S. Army South headquarters at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston March 20-22. Senior leaders from partner nations in Central America, participated in the premier engagement between Army South staff and CENTAM senior intelligence and operations officers. Held annually, the meeting promotes mutual security interests and interoperability.
