Air Force to allow longer braids, ponytails, bangs for women

Beginning in February 2021, female Airmen will be able to wear their hair in up to two braids or a single ponytail with bulk not exceeding the width of the head and length not extending below a horizontal line running between the top of each sleeve inseam at the under arm through the shoulder blades. 470th Military Intelligence Brigade member contributes coaching skills to Army volleyball team

Sgt. Pedro Ortiz Feliciano, 470th Military Intelligence Brigade analyst at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, served as an assistant coach for the All Army Men’s Volleyball Team that competed in the Armed Forces Volleyball Championship tournament in May at Hurlburt Field, Florida. His expertise and knowledge of volleyball and physical training helped the team to a second place showing at the tournament.

DOD Works to Incorporate More Gender Perspective in Operations

Karen Ward, Pacific Partnership 2016 Women, Peace and Security lead, and Dr. Randa Mardanis (right), Women, Peace and Security seminar mediator, speak at a panel during the Pacific Partnership 2016 Women, Peace and Security seminar. The seminar gave Pacific Partnership personnel, local government and provincial officials an open forum to discuss the roles and requirements of women in disasters. This is the fifth time Pacific Partnership has visited Indonesia. Partner nations are working side-by-side with local organizations during disaster response training, civil engineering projects, Women, Peace, and Security seminars, medical subject matter expert exchanges and a live field training exercise aimed at improving the capacity of local government, civilian agencies and partner militaries to collectively respond in crisis.

Women's History Month: pioneering in the past, pioneering today

Military training instructors speak with female veterans, known as Women in the Air Force, a term for women who joined the Air Force between 1949 and 1976, during the Air Force Basic Military Training graduation parade Oct. 7, 2016, at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland’s parade grounds. JBSA-Lackland hosted a reunion of the WAF members and provided the veterans a tour of the base. WAF was founded in 1948 out of the Women’s Armed Service Integration Act, which enabled tens of thousands of female service members to find jobs in the Air Force. In 1976 women were accepted into the service on an equal basis with men.
