Build-A-Backpack helps families overcome ‘money crunch’ when school starts

The Joint Base San Antonio Child & Youth Education Services School Liaison Office will help military families in financial need the week of July 22-26 when it accepts backpacks filled with school supplies for children in those families.

Nita-Ford Hightower (left) and Quiana Abner (right), Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston Military Child Education Program school liaison officers, sort through donated backpacks filled with school supplies collected through the eighth annual Build-A-Backpack Program drive Aug. 9. The program, sponsored by the JBSA Military Child Education Program-School Liaison Office, provides backpacks and school supplies for schoolchildren of military families, including active duty and wounded service members and Guard and Reserve personnel. This year, the program provided backpacks for 1,420 JBSA schoolchildren.
