San Antonio twin brothers strengthen bond by joining Navy together

Twin brothers Kalvin (left) and Kelvin Rodriguez Rivera of San Antonio entered the Navy’s Delayed Entry Program and are making preparations to attend recruit training to become naval aircrewmen.  The brothers, who are seniors at Highlands High School, were recruited by Petty Officer 2nd Class Brandon Rodriguez of Navy Recruiting Station Southeast San Antonio.

Cmdr. Nicholas Gamiz (right center), Navy Recruiting District San Antonio commanding officer, is joined by (from left) Command Master Chief Francisco Valdovinos, Cmdr. Michael Files, and Master Chief Matthew Maduemesi, along with the 2004 Navy Recruiting Command’s Bronze “R” Award at NRD-SA headquarters at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston.  The NRD was awarded the Bronze “R” by the Navy Recruiting Command for its performance during the first half of fiscal year 2020.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Jesus Escobar (right), assigned to Navy Recruiting Station McAllen, briefs Team Sparky of Harlingen Early College High School regarding the challenge course during the HESTEC 2020 SeaPerch Challenge held at the Margaret M. Brown first entered the Navy in 2013 serving four years and will be assigned to Navy Operations Support Center San Antonio. He is joined by his wife, Petty Officer 2nd Class Angelica Brown, the NRD San Antonio community relations coordinator.

Kathleen Spyrnal, an officer programs operations officer assigned to Navy Recruiting District San Antonio, presented a certificate of appreciation to World War II Merchant Marine Ray Denison during an Alamo Honor Flight Breakfast Aug. 14. Attended by other WWII veterans, the breakfast also served as a venue to celebrate Denison’s 100th birthday.

Central and South Texas educators and counselors, along with support personnel from Navy Recruiting District San Antonio, toured the Freedom-class littoral combat ship, USS FORT WORTH (LCS 3) during the NRD’s annual Educator Orientation Visit July 11. The EOV is a Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) program with a main focus of showing educators the various facets of America’s Navy and the many career paths available to students.

Aguilar is a division leading petty officer assigned to Navy Recruiting Station McAllen, Navy Recruiting District San Antonio and helped enlist his sister into the Navy. Torres, a 2018 graduate of Edinburg North High School, is the third of three siblings and the first female in her family to serve in the military.

The Navy Recruiting District San Antonio Liaison Office, co-located with Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) San Antonio at Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, made history during the “Summer Surge” of recruiting by processing 235 future Sailors for shipping to Recruit Training Command in July; the highest number of any MEPS within Navy Recruiting Region West’s area of responsibility.
