Newest member of the Fort Sam Houston Caisson makes his debut

Chandler, the Fort Sam Caisson Platoon’s newest “Cap” horse, stands during the Feb. 5, 2019 funeral for retired Brig. Gen. Joseph D. Schott . Staff Sgt. Joshua Rightenour, a member of the Caisson platoon, holds his reins. Rightenour said participating in military funerals is a “very humbling experience.” He added “everyone we do these services for served honorably. It’s just one little thing we can give back to them.”

Beau, a six-year-old quarter horse, has begun his training as a caparisoned, or riderless, horse and is expected to be part of a ceremonial team that renders honors to fallen service members.
