JBSA-LACKLAND, Texas –
The 433rd Airlift Wing at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland lent a helping hand to Soldiers from U.S. Army South Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston as they geared up at the JBSA-Lackland flightline for an emergency deployment exercise to Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Sept. 8.
“The purpose of this exercise is to test our abilities and contingency response for a strategic airlift movement in support of U.S. SouthernCommand,” said Lt. Col. Ryan Levesque, U.S. Army South Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion commander.
The exercise also tested the unit’s ability to mobilize in a 48-hour time period and set up a mobile command post in another country.
Aerial porters with the 74th Aerial Port Squadron weighed and loaded 68,000 pounds of cargo and equipment while loadmasters from the 68th Airlift Squadron secured the loaded Humvees onto a waiting C-5A Galaxy aircraft.
