Lackland Air Force Base, Texas –
The "Gateway to the Air Force" is revving up for AirFest 2006 which takes to the skies over San Antonio Nov. 4 and 5. The event, which will be at historic Kelly airfield, is free and open to the general public.
The Air Force aerial demonstration team, the Thunderbirds, and the Army parachute-jumping demonstration team, the Golden Knights, will be the main headliners in a day full of aerial antics, aircraft displays and more.
Other scheduled military aerial demonstrations include an F-15 Eagle, A-10 Thunderbolt II and F-18 Hornet. Commercial acts will include the Flying Elvis jump team; Tora, Tora, Tora, a re-enactment of Pearl Harbor; and OTTO the performing helicopter.
Almost 30 aircraft static displays will be on hand, allowing visitors an up-close look at today's U.S. military airpower. Aircraft lining the flightline will include a B-1 bomber, C-17 Globemaster III, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-117 Stealth Fighter and UH-1 Huey.
Gates will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with the AirFest running from 11 a.m. to
4:30 p.m.
With security being one of Lackland's top priorities during the AirFest, visitors will be prohibited from bringing concealed weapons, ice chests, backpacks, large bags, alcohol, skates, skateboards, rollerblades and pets (with the exception of service animals) into the AirFest grounds. Anyone carrying these items will be asked to return them to their vehicle.
