Pageant coming to Lackland

The Miss Bexar County Organization Inc. is scheduled to sponsor the Miss Bexar County, Miss Bexar County's Outstanding Teen and Miss San Antonio's Outstanding Teen Pageants on Jan. 13 in the Gateway Club.

The evening, titled "To Those Who Serve," begins with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and the pageants at 7 p.m.

Servicemembers assigned to Brooke Army Medical Center, while recuperating from war injuries, will be the special guests. During the opening number, they will be honored by members of the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines. These four representatives will be joined on stage by the Castle Hills First Baptist School children's choir as they perform "The Star-Spangled Banner."

"As of this date, we have at least three contestants with military connections. Our tribute has special meaning for them," said Ron Coyle, president of the MBCOI.

Jennifer Peter, 17, is the daughter of Lt. Col. Perry and Sandra Peter. Colonel Peter is an instructor pilot with the 100th Flying Training Squadron at Randolph AFB and has 23 years of service.

Jennifer's brother is Marine Pfc. Christopher Peter.

Natassia Marchbanks, a 20-year-old student at San Antonio College, is the daughter of Lonnie and Julianne Marchbanks. Her father is a retired Army E-8 and her mother is a captain in the Army Reserve and is currently working Trauma ICU at Brooke Army Medical Center as a registered nurse.

Natassia's brother, Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Marchbanks, is a field medic with the Navy Fleet Marine Force.

Miss Marchbanks will be commissioning into the Air Force as an officer upon completion of her bachelor's degree.

Crystal Nelson is a 14-year-old student at Sam Rayburn Middle School. She resides with her grandparents, Leon and Doris Nelson. Her grandfather, who served in the military from 1952-1972, retired from the military.

The public is invited to attend. Tickets for the dinner and pageants are $35 and can be purchased by 675-1772. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
