Airman & Family Readiness Seminar focuses on VA loans

By Robert Goetz 12th Flying Training Wing Public Affairs

Team Randolph active-duty personnel, veterans and retired military who are in the market for a home will have an opportunity to learn about U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs home loans during a seminar Sept. 28 at the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

The seminar takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features representatives from the Houston Regional Loan Center who will provide information on VA loan eligibility, entitlement, qualifying for a VA loan and other topics. In the process they will dispel some of the myths associated with VA loans.

"If you're considering buying a home and are eligible for a VA loan, you should go to this seminar," said Steve Mayfield, A&FRF certified financial counselor.  "They will clear up some of the myths people have about the VA process."

Among the other topics representatives will address are: the Contact Information System; how to obtain a Certificate of Eligibility; the VA maximum guaranty; income and credit and the funding fee.

"I see this as a great opportunity for folks to get good information about VA home loans and see it as a viable option," said Mr. Mayfield. "It will give you more knowledge so you can compare it to other loans and determine what lending mechanism you want to use."
Mr. Mayfield called buying a home the biggest purchase people make in their lifetime.

"It only makes sense to have as much information as possible," he said.
