37th Services Division named best in Air Force

The 37th Services Division has been awarded the prestigious 2008 General Curtis E. LeMay Award for best large-base services organization in the Air Force.

A team of evaluators visited eight major command-level winners, including 37th SVD and its facilities on Lackland, KellyUSA and Camp Bullis, to assess customer service, programming, leadership and operational results.

Division Director Jerry Stanfill said he was particularly proud of his division because of their dedication to their mission.

"I have never been so proud of a group of people as I am of our staff," he said. "They have overcome many challenges, and this well-deserved award acknowledges the results of their efforts in innovative programs, customer service and dedication to the Air Force mission."

Brig. Gen. Len Patrick, 37th Training Wing commander, said the focus for the 37th SVD is enhancing Lackland Air Force Base's quality of life with the best services possible.

"Just look at the events they put on," he said. "The Fourth of July Star Spangled Festival, club membership nights, youth center bashes. They're doing some amazing things, and the patrons are noticing and coming out. They're giving back to the community and creating a family environment."

Debbie Milner, the division's marketing director, said the prestige of winning the award is only matched by the opportunity to serve Lackland and the surrounding community.

"This is a culmination of a year's worth of initiative, hard work and great programming for the community," she said. "It's kind of like winning the Super Bowl. This is our highest honor. It means you're the best in the Air Force."

General Patrick said the award goes much deeper than just the trophy the division received.

"Winning the LeMay trophy is probably one of the hardest things to do in the United States Air Force," he said.

"There are so many business areas, there are so many processes, products, and customers the services division touches. To be recognized by Air Education and Training Command as the best to compete with the Air Force, and then to be recognized by the Air Force LeMay team, shows that our services folks are constantly proving themselves, he said."

The division was recognized at an awards banquet held during the Manpower, Personnel and Services Worldwide Conference in June at the Keystone Conference Center in Colorado.
