Network Enterprise Center-Joint Base San Antonio Introduces NETMOD 2.0

U.S. Army Signal Network Enterprise Center

Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston, including JBSA-Camp Bullis and Camp Stanley is about to experience its second round of Network Modernization, or NETMOD.

This initiative is called NETMOD 2.0. JBSA-Fort Sam Houston was the first Installation that conducted NETMOD 1.0 in 2014.

The Network Enterprise Center-JBSA, along with 106th Signal Brigade, Information Systems Engineers Command and Global Enterprise Network Modernization-Americas, or GENM-A, conducted a project kick-off meeting Sept. 13.

JBSA-Fort Sam Houston will receive new information technology network equipment to replace the End of Life and End of Support legacy network equipment for all buildings on the Department of Defense Information Network-Army, or DODIN-A, roughly 1500 switches in total. This initiative will take approximately 10 months to complete.

The GENM-A team will be on site from Oct. 31 to Nov. 18 conducting physical assessments of all telecommunication rooms.

The NEC-JBSA will ensure all organizations are notified in advance when the team will be visiting mission partner facilities by means of an Information Dissemination Sheet, or IDS. In addition, mission partners will also receive information/notification regarding any potential schedule changes.

Once assessments are completed, the NEC-JBSA will notify Mission Partners via IDS on equipment installation schedules in facilities within their footprint.

Mission partners are to notify the NEC-JBSA of any scheduled exercise and/or training to ensure no interruption of service and/or mission impact occurs during scheduled Authorized Service Interruptions.

NEC-JBSA looks forward to this equipment upgrade while ensuring minimal downtime to allow for the successful transition of network equipment.
