Joint Base San Antonio celebrates Women's Equality Day

By Ginessa Mejia 802nd Force Support Squadron Civilian Personnel Section

Women's Equality Day is Aug. 26 and this year’s theme is “Follow Your Yellow Brick Road.”

Women's Equality Day is a time to acknowledge the importance of the Women’s Suffrage Movement and its impact on the ratification of the 19th Amendment of the United States Constitution.

Over the years, the observance has grown to include focusing attention on women's continued efforts toward gaining full equality. Women's Equality Day was officially established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1971.

It is also a time to raise awareness of societal ills that continue to adversely affect the careers and advancement of women. It also reminds us to celebrate the women who came before, and the women today who are reimaging the rules and blazing a new path.

In observance of Women’s Equality Day, Joint Base San Antonio is displaying Women's Equality Day posters across Joint Base San Antonio. They will be displayed at all JBSA Military and Family Readiness Centers, as well as all JBSA libraries.
