May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center is celebrating by recognizing several of our teammates across the AFIMSC enterprise.

Gunoy J. Fortune is a cost price and cost analyst with the Air Force Installation Contracting Center’s 338th Enterprise Sourcing Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas.

With more than 38 years in service to our nation, she is responsible for analyzing competitive and sole source proposals for Base Operation Support and Aircraft Maintenance Support, to include bridge contracts, modifications and enterprise contract actions valued from $13 million to $14 billion.

How do you contribute to the lethality and readiness of the Air Force?
I team up with other Air Force members to ensure government contracts for services provide the best value for Air Force missions. I strive to develop processes that allow me to perform my job efficiently and effectively.

What do you enjoy most about being an Airman (military or civilian)?
I enjoy working with my Air Force teams, especially when we share views and ideas that make the missions more efficient and improve the lives of all military members.  I enjoy looking towards the future for constant improvement.

If you could share one thing about your Asian American, Pacific Islander heritage, what would it be?
My sisters and I are first generation Chinese immigrants. We always try to celebrate Chinese New Year with dishes my parents served us when we were children. We discuss customs and memories, and what these things mean to us. We have continued to share this celebration with our children.

Why is it important to celebrate the history and heritage of every member of the AFIMSC team?
When we take the time to learn about the customs, views and heritages of others, we understand how these views and ideas develop. This makes us more open to others’ perspectives, improving our interpersonal relationships.

What motivates and inspires you the most?
In the workplace, the team concept inspires me the most. Everyone contributes and shares in a non-threatening environment; there is no right or wrong in contributions and the team works and reasons things out together. In my personal life, it’s about respect, kindness, fairness, understanding and having a good work ethic
