JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas –
Members of the Joint Base San Antonio community are celebrating this year’s Fiesta San Antonio which began on April 20 and ends April 30.
Fiesta San Antonio is an annual festival that has expanded to 11 days and honors the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto.
“In 1836, something significant happened in our country right here at the Alamo in San Antonio,” said Lt. Gen. Darryl Roberson, commander of Air Education and Training Command. “To the last full measure, Americans gave their lives in the defense of the Alamo to try and preserve what we held so dear.”
What began as a one-time parade in 1891, has grown into a celebration of San Antonio's rich and diverse cultures. Military representatives throughout San Antonio participate in receptions, parades, pilgrimages and memorials.
“There is something very special about working alongside people who desire to remember the heroes of the past through the acts of good deed, charity and civic duty,” said Roberson. “Events like Fiesta are what make San Antonio ‘Military City, USA’. Our military members and families appreciate what you do for us. We could not succeed in our daily business without the support of the local community.”
This year’s Fiesta coincides with Air Force’s 70th anniversary and AETC’s 75th anniversary.
