A fifth grader at Specht Elementary School in San Antonio is coached by Staff Sgt. Darren O. Thomas (left) and  Staff Sgt. Brandon Hood (right) from the Fort Sam Houston Honors Platoon Oct. 18 on how to properly fold the U.S. flag, as well as how to render proper honors when raising and lowering the flag. The students are volunteers with the task of putting up the flag in the mornings and taking it down at the end of each school day.

Akeroyd Donor Center takes ownership of new blood mobile

In September, the Akeroyd Blood Donor Center received a new blood mobile. The new state-of-the-art mobile will be used by the donor center to reach out to the Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston permanent party population to collect plasma for the freeze-dried plasma program.

Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph’s dining facility, or DFAC, which had been closed for renovation since June 2015, reopened last week with a new name, a new look, more food choices and an expanded customer base.
